About Sunlit Nook Learning

What Is a Microschool?

A microschool is a small, student-centered learning environment designed to support children in a more personalized and meaningful way than traditional schools. With fewer students and a flexible approach, microschools create space for deeper learning, stronger relationships, and more joy in the learning process.

At Sunlit Nook Learning, we:
  • Serve children in kindergarten through second grade
  • Meet the students at their academic levels
  • Keep class sizes small to ensure every child is seen and supported
  • Offer a hands-on, interest-driven curriculum that builds strong academic foundations
  • Focus on the whole child—encouraging social, emotional, and creative growth
  • Foster a sense of belonging, curiosity, and confidence in every learner

Microschools blend the best parts of homeschooling, traditional classrooms, and progressive education to create a safe, inspiring space where children thrive.

About Me

Hi! I'm Ms. Screws, and I’m thrilled to welcome families to our learning community. I’ve worked in education for over thirteen years—as a paraprofessional, substitute teacher, and for the past ten years, as a full-time classroom teacher.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with the WJHG Golden Apple Award and recognized as Bay District Schools' Starbucks Teacher of the Week. I’m also a proud recipient of a Bay Education Foundation grant. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University and am certified in Elementary Education, Reading, ESOL, and Exceptional Student Education (ESE).

I’m passionate about creating a nurturing, engaging learning environment where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. I truly believe in personalized education that meets students where they are—and helps them grow beyond what they thought possible. I can’t wait to partner with you and help your child shine!
